COURSE DESCRIPTION:
In this course, students will be exploring close reading skills and rhetorical elements with a direct emphasis on nonfiction text. Students will broaden their awareness of words through multiple vocabulary experiences, and they’ll extend their grammar awareness of agreement between subjects and verbs as well as pronouns and antecedents. They’ll conduct formal research reflective of MLA guidelines and publish a multiple source formal research paper in a persuasive voice. In addition, students will briefly survey the elements of the Transcendentalist period of literature to gain an early appreciation between the connections of expression and purposeful application in life. Students are expected to actively read all forms of text and grow in their self-awareness of questions, extensions, and connections while reading.
