AP English Literature 

PREREQUISITES: English 11 (or AP English Language) (Open enrollment, but a B+ average in English classes is preferred)

LENGTH: 3 Trimesters

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This 3 trimester course is designed to prepare students with advanced skills in literature and composition for the Advance Placement tests in English.  While the class will cover similar material as Novel/College English, it will follow material designed to meet AP standards.  Students must be able to read material independently and be prepared to actively participate in class discussions, projects, etc.  Students are required to read four selections during summer vacation to prepare for the class.

  • To carefully read and critically analyze imaginative literature.
  • To understand the way writers use language to provide meaning and pleasure
  • To consider a work’s structure, style, and themes as well as such smaller scale elements as the use of figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone.
