Introduction to Woods & Metal Math Applications
PREREQUISITES: None
LENGTH: 1 Trimester
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This class will take the place of (Basic Shop Math Applications). It will be the prerequisite to the Advanced Woods, Metal & Building Trades class. This shop class will give students an introduction to many areas of industrial applications. It will provide a spectrum for both woodworking and welding tools, safety strategies, and applied problem solving skills. The students will learn and demonstrate personal procedural and application uses of the different avenues in industry. The overlying theme of the class will demonstrate mathematical and scientific applications in the industrial setting. The class will cover all of the shop safety skills, tool mastery, and project design skills. The student will demonstrate proficiency in: angle measuring, fraction manipulation, one, two, three and four dimensional measuring, cost analysis, and basic schematic drawing. The progress of students will be monitored so that they will begin with fundamentals and progress to higher skill levels as they exhibit proficiency.
